Humidity‐Initiated Gas Sensors for Volatile Organic Compounds Sensing

A new volatile organic compounds (VOCs) sensing concept called humidity-initiated gas (HIG) sensors is described and demonstrated. HIG employ the impedance of water assembled at sensor interfaces when exposed to humidity sense VOCs low concentrations. Here, two variants are studied—Type I Type II. benefit from simplicity, but less attractive in terms key performance metrics, including response time detection limits. II more complex, metrics. Notably, it observed that best-in-class achieve <2 min times <10 ppb limit for geranyl acetone, a VOC linked asymptomatic form Huanglongbing (HLB) citrus disease.
